Human Factors Summer School 2026 Hosted at BUW

On October 1 and 2, 2026, we had the pleasure of hosting this year’s Human Factors Summer School here at the Chair of Work and Environmental Psychology.

The Summer School offered master’s students nearing graduation, doctoral candidates, and postdocs in the field of human factors a supportive platform to network, present current research ideas, and discuss the challenges of early-career research in a collegial atmosphere.

The program was packed with valuable exchanges:

  • a scientific speed-dating session for networking
  • 9 discussion sessions in which preliminary findings and concepts were explored in depth without the pressure of “perfect” presentations,
  • 5 poster presentations,
  • an interactive session on the role of artificial intelligence in research.

What makes this format so special is the time factor: Instead of moderated short presentations, there was plenty of room for in-depth discussions and constructive feedback from experienced senior researchers—a real added value, whether you’re just starting your Ph.D. or nearing the finish line.

Of course, the local highlight couldn’t be missed: A ride on the suspension railway across the Wupper River was a highlight for many participants, even outside the official program!

A heartfelt thank you goes to the DGP’s Engineering Psychology Section and the ZGS Wuppertal for their generous support and sponsorship. We were delighted to host this event and welcome so many dedicated early-career researchers!
