Teaching
The Chair of Work and Environmental Psychology teaches in the fields of work and organisational psychology, environmental psychology and human-technology interaction. Our mission statement and goal is to train scientific practitioners - this means equipping students with the ability to transfer evidence-based findings from research into their daily practical work. In our teaching, we combine knowledge transfer, practical examples and students' own development and conceptualisation with active practice of skills and methods. This includes teaching and practice units in English and digital elements. In addition to our active teaching methods, constructivist and model-based forms of learning are central: We have had very positive experiences with various small group and project concepts in which students work on case studies under guidance, create their own solutions and concepts, and (in advanced levels of training) carry out their own practical and research projects. The teaching formats are structurally adapted to optimise the acquisition of knowledge and skills. In selected courses, tutorial support promotes the acquisition of knowledge and project examples are deepened by external practical guests or excursions. In our specialisation courses, block dates and all-day block courses have proven to be very successful. These allow for significantly improved reflection, particularly through more intensive practice scenarios in terms of time and content (e.g. assessment centres or simulations in the area of business and environmental mediation).
In our view, examinations not only serve to record performance, but are also an important part of knowledge transfer due to their feedback function. We therefore attach great importance to providing students with differentiated feedback on presentations, term papers, project work and final theses. Our assessments are criteria-orientated. Oral examinations are partially standardised, written examinations are based on a combination of question formats that assess both factual knowledge and transfer skills. After correction, we offer opportunities to discuss open questions. Our examinations do not end with the grading - they can be a feedback tool to promote further understanding of the content.
