From 9 to 11 April 2025, our PhD student Maike Ramrath attended the Annual Meeting of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society - Europe Chapter in Bologna, Italy. Every year, the interdisciplinary conference brings together international researchers from the fields of human factors, psychology and engineering to discuss current challenges and developments in human-technology interaction.

Maike Ramrath presented her poster entitled "Mental Workload in Supervising Autonomous Systems: Vigilance, Boredom Proneness and Need for Cognition". As part of a study in a maritime context, she and her co-authors investigated the role of personality traits in relation to mental workload in the supervision of automated systems. The aim of the research is to better understand the psychological factors influencing mental underload and overload in order to derive requirements for the design and personnel in automated work contexts.

Participation in the conference enabled an intensive exchange with international experts and provided new impetus for the further development of Maike's doctoral project. The trip was financially supported by the Centre for Graduate Studies (ZGS).

The digital version of the poster is available here.
